Notification of Diarrhetic Shellfish Toxin (DST) Event in the Southwest

Please note quantifiable levels of Diarrhetic Shellfish Toxin (DST) have been detected in mussels in Dunamnus & Bantry at the regulatory limit of 0.16µg in Dunmanus Bay (29-06-26) and Bantry North (06-07-26). Quantifiable concentrations of Diarrhetic Shellfish Toxin (DST’s) concentrations have been observed in a number of samples in various production areas in Bantry Bay below the regulatory limit. This coincides with the occurrence and increasing cell density (cells/litre) of the causative toxin producing phytoplankton species Dinophysis during the month of June, however cell densities of this species have been observed to decrease during the first week of July.
